Agency cracks down on makers of fake chocolate drinks in Bauchi markets

The Bauchi State office of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has embarked on a three-day operation to rid markets of counterfeit Milo chocolate drinks.

Dr. Paul Kamai, Bauchi State Coordinator of NAFDAC, revealed on Wednesday that the exercise, which began on Tuesday, aims to eliminate fake Milo products from circulation following a directive from the agency’s headquarters.

In addition to the market raids, NAFDAC has scheduled a meeting with the leadership of the Agro chemical dealers association to warn against the use of harmful chemicals, such as Dictholoruvis and Paraquat, to store food.

These chemicals, banned due to their dangers, are often used as preservatives, particularly during the harvest season.

”The NAFDAC office began the inspections in markets and superstores to get rid of the fake Milo in circulation following a directive from the Headquarters.

“This exercise will last for three days starting Tuesday,” he said.

The state director also said that the agency had scheduled a date within the week to engage the leadership of the association of Agro chemical dealers on the dangers of chemicals on foods.

“In Bauchi, we will engage the dealers of Agro chemicals against the use of Dictholoruvis and Paraquat chemicals to store food as we approach harvest period.

“These are dangerous chemicals that have been banned over time,” he added.

The agency’s efforts aim to protect consumers from harmful products and ensure the safety of food and drugs in Bauchi State.
