No fewer than 71 people have been hospitalised from the outbreak of Cholera in Adamawa State following a flooding disaster.
According to a statement by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), there is a huge outbreak of cholera in the state.
In the statement, it was reported that 71 people have been hospitalised, 100 people were under observation, and not less than 7 have been confirmed dead.
NEMA disclosed that the outbreak was due to the recent flood in the state which had contaminated the people’s primary source of water.
“The outbreak is attributed to a recent flood disaster that contaminated the primary drinking water source”, the report read.
The emergency agency further disclosed that some of the affected individuals had to be transferred due to the population in the isolation centre.
Additionally, measures such as treatment of water, community sensitization and provision of chlorinating toilets are being made available.
The statement read: “Due to the overflow at the isolation center, some patients are being transferred to the Federal Medical Centre
“NEMA, along with the Adamawa State government, has initiated emergency measures, including chlorinating toilets and providing water treatment to reduce the spread of infection. They have also conducted community education to raise awareness about the disease.”
NEMA is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with stakeholders for timely intervention”, the statement concluded.
