Enugu State Government on Monday issued a public service announcement via its official channels, announcing stringent measures to tackle indiscriminate and random dumping of refuse and unbagged waste disposal.

It says a special task force will be deployed across the state starting from Monday to enforce the ban.

“Offenders will face arrest and a fine of fifty thousand naira,” the statement read.

Residents were also urged to inform their families, children, and neighbors to ensure all waste is properly bagged in ESWAMA-approved bin bags and disposed of correctly.

Additionally, the announcement stated that all sorting by recycling companies should relocate to the landfill at Ugwu Onyeama. Any individual caught sorting plastics or other materials from waste dumps within the city will face legal consequences.

In a statement signed by Professor Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government, on May 11, 2024, residents are urged to adhere to these regulations to maintain cleanliness and environmental hygiene across the state.
