The Minister of State for Environment, Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has stressed the importance of environmental conservation in the country.
The minister said this on Sunday at the 50th National Convention of the Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Nigeria (Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Organisation), in Abuja.
Salako emphasized the worthiness of greening efforts in Nigeria, known for its strong connection to nature.
He reiterated that many of the climate-related challenges are caused by humans and could be managed and mitigated if cutting of trees could be reduced, if not stopped totally.
The minister mentioned the government’s top priority to enhance the Nigerian environment in becoming a green country; among these priorities are: discouraging harmful practices like cutting of trees, and promoting urban greenery, tree planting, and horticulture.
He stated further that these proactive measures would not only conserve natural resources, especially trees, but also contribute to making the country a safer place to live.
On his part, the Amir of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, Alhaji Olatoye Folorunsho Abdulaziz, highlighted the role of the youth, particularly, the Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Nigeria to achieve developmental goals.
He enjoined youths to remain consistent and resilient in all their efforts, as he also reminded them that dishonesty, kidnapping, and other forms of evil are various challenges in the country.
