The Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has reported that heavy rainfall has destroyed approximately 2,517 houses and shops across 33 communities in the state.

This information was revealed by Ibrahim Nalado, the agency’s deputy director of Relief and Rehabilitation, during an interview on Saturday in Gombe.

Nalado detailed that the affected communities are located in the Dukku, Funakaye, and Billiri Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

While no lives were lost in the flooding, two children sustained injuries in Dukku LGA, and seven animals were swept away by the floodwaters.

The deputy director highlighted that the Hina community in Yamaltu/Deba LGA was the most severely impacted, with nearly 1,000 hectares of farmlands growing rice, maize, sorghum, and millet submerged under water.

In a related development, flooding also destroyed about 1,650 houses in the towns of Jajere and Yunusari in Yobe State.
