The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano State made a big step in medicine.

The hospital performed its first kidney and urology treatments using Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER) technology.

Using LASER technology for kidney and urology treatments are less invasive, said Dr. Przemyslaw Zugaj, a surgeon from Poland who led the team.

Zugaj says it helps with complicated cases like kidney, bladder, and prostate issues. Patients can go home after 2-3 days, even if there are complications.

The teaching hospital, alongside six other hospitals in the North-West region, got N4.5 billion from TETFund to acquire state-of-the-art equipment.

In addition to providing funding for the equipment, PlanetPulse Nigeria understands that TETFund also organised intensive training for doctors from all seven hospitals.
