The Lagos State government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the reopening of the Lagos Food Discount Market popularly called “Ounje Eko.”

The state government in March had introduced the market with a 25 percent discount on prices of food items to address the current hardship in the country.

The market which opens on Sundays offers the people of the state discounts on staple food items like rice, beans, gari, bread, eggs, tomatoes, and pepper.

It is spread in over 50 locations across the state’s five divisions, including Ikeja (27), Lagos Island (6), Ikorodu (9), Epe (5), and Badagry (10).

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and his Agriculture and Food Systems counterpart, Abisola Olusanya, disclosed this in a post on the X platform Wednesday.

It read: “Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed that the Sunday market Ounjè Eko with a 25% cut in prices should return on Sunday.”
