The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development has unveiled a five-year plan to improve wastewater management throughout Lagos.

The initiative, which will run through 2025 to 2030, will improve sustainable wastewater management, safeguard public health, enhance environmental sustainability, and improve the quality of life of everyone in the state.

The plan was revealed on Wednesday at an event that took place at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island.

During the conference, General Manager of LSWMO, Adefemi Afolabi, explained that the initiative was to control the impact of wastewater in the state.

In his words, “The LSWMO will explore innovative revenue mechanisms to create a financially sustainable model for wastewater management in Lagos. Upgraded infrastructure will be deployed to mitigate the environmental impact of wastewater discharge, contributing to a cleaner, safer ecosystem.”

He explained further that the scheduled plan aligned with the recently introduced Lagos WASH Policy 2024.

He emphasized that the plan aims at enhancing the efficiency of existing wastewater management systems, and improving sanitation services, especially in certain underserved areas.
