Lagos urges residents to learn from alarming rate of flood world over

Lagos Government has urged residents of the state to pay attention to the trend of floods happening in different parts of the world at this time.

The government, in a video posted across its social media handles, has called on Lagosians to keep their environment safe by “doing the right thing.”

The video had scenes from Kenya and Brazil as well as other countries that have suffered loss of lives and properties due to heavy flooding in their communities.

In a post on X, the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, reminded inhabitants of the state of the rainy season and urged them to not block the drainage systems.

He wrote: “Flood risk is increasing at an alarming rate all over the world, posing threats to people, assets, and the environment,” the commissioner wrote.

“The rainy season is here! Join the state in preventing flooding and avoiding loss of lives and properties. Keep your environment clean. Do the right thing.”

Over the past few years, Lagos has suffered mild and heavy flooding during the rainy season, and the government has recently made efforts to avoid suffering same this year.

Meanwhile, PlanetPulse.NG earlier reported that the Federal Government has alerted no fewer than 148 local government areas (LGAs) within the country to prepare against flood.

It was stated that flash and urban flooding were expected to affect urban city centers nationwide, including Abakaliki, Abeokuta, Abuja, and Lagos, Asaba, Benin City, Birnin-Kebbi, and others.
