The Federal Government of Nigeria will provide N3 billion each to the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to help reduce the impact of recent floods.
This was announced by the Minister of Finance and Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, during a visit to flood-affected areas in Kebbi State.
Edun said the National Economic Council decided to distribute the funds to help states, like Kebbi, prepare for the upcoming dry season farming.
According to the Minister, the fund will help ensure an abundant food supply at affordable prices, helping to reduce inflation and stabilize the economy.
In his words; “I would like to announce that the National Economic Council has proactively decided to allocate N3 billion to support all states across the federation and the FCT in mitigating the effects of flooding this year.
“That will put many states like Kebbi in a good position to be able to prepare their farmers to the all-important dry season farming, which we anticipate will be successful, well planned and well implemented.”
Edun went on to convey President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to supporting the state’s efforts to maintain security, enhance resilience, and boost productivity, ultimately solidifying its position as Nigeria’s food basket.
Planetpulse.NG had reported series of flooding cases across Nigeria this season, with many northern states losing houses and farmlands due to flood.
The Minister of Budget and Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu, did speak about the severe flooding in several local areas and praised the people of Kebbi for their resilience.
He assured them of government support to improve dry season farming efforts, with government already supporting projects like the Badagry-Sokoto road.
