Nigeria’s first lady supports S’West women with N60m agric fund

The wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has pledged her support for farming in the South-West geopolitical zone with a N60million fund.

Mrs. Oluremi granted the support to women in the region who are into farming. The First Lady also pledged a N10million support – N100,000 each for 100 people living with disabilities in the zone.

These were all done during the launch of Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme for the South-West and flag off of 2024 planting season on Tuesday.

The event took place at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The largesse by the First Lady was for a total of 120 women in agriculture – 20 women from each of the six (6) states in the South-West zone.

In her speech, the First Lady stated that the flag off was one of the measures that the current administration was using to encourage women in agriculture in the country.

The same initiative is also being exercised in Plateau State for the North Central, Borno for the North-East and Kebbi for the North-West geopolitical zones.

In her words: “Today, we are supporting 20 women per state in the South-West with the sum of N500,000 each. To this end, a draft cheque of N10 million per state will be handed over to the first ladies who are the Coordinators of this programme in each of the South-West states for disbursement to the beneficiaries.”

She further advised the beneficiaries of the program to maximise the funds to expand their capacity and improve productivity in order to increase food availability in the country.

Also present at the ceremony was th Ogun state governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, who commended the wife of the president over the gesture, while revealing that his administration had thus far supported over 50,000 women within the state in a financial support program.
