The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast varying weather conditions across the country between Monday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 29, 2025, warning of possible flash floods in some southern states and urging citizens to stay alert.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet projected that parts of northern Nigeria — including Borno, Zamfara, northern Kaduna, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina — will experience slight dust haze with good visibility on Monday.
Isolated thunderstorms and light rains are also expected in parts of Taraba and Adamawa later in the day.
For the central region, NiMet said sunny skies with patches of clouds would dominate early in the day, with isolated thunderstorms and light rain expected later in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, and Kogi states.
The southern region, it added, would experience cloudy conditions in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms and light rain across Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states.
“Later in the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are anticipated in Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states,” the agency said.
On Tuesday, NiMet forecast continued slight dust haze across northern states, while Taraba and Adamawa may experience isolated thunderstorms throughout the day.
It also projected sunny skies with intermittent clouds over the central region, with early morning thunderstorms in Benue and moderate rainfall later across the FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi states.
The agency warned that cloudy skies and moderate rainfall would persist across southern states such as Rivers, Cross River, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom, intensifying later in the day.
It raised concerns over possible flooding in parts of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River, urging local authorities to activate emergency response measures.
For Wednesday, NiMet predicted sunny skies in the north with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rain later in Taraba. The central region, it said, would experience sunny skies with patches of clouds, and isolated thunderstorms over Kogi and the FCT.
In the south, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, giving way to thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom by afternoon and evening.
NiMet reiterated the likelihood of flash floods in vulnerable areas and advised motorists to exercise caution when driving in the rain.
Individuals with asthma and other respiratory conditions were also cautioned to limit outdoor exposure due to dust particles expected in the northern region.
The agency urged airline operators to obtain up-to-date, airport-specific weather reports for flight planning and encouraged the public to stay informed through its website and official communication channels.
