The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has assured the public that there are no recorded cases of Ebola virus disease in the country, following reports of a fresh outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In its public health advisory, the agency said it is monitoring the situation closely in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and regional health bodies.
“There are no cases of Ebola virus disease in Nigeria, as at now,” the NCDC stated.
The DRC’s ministry of health had earlier confirmed 28 suspected cases and 15 deaths, including four health workers, in Kasai Province.
Jide Idris, director-general of the NCDC, said while Nigeria remains Ebola-free, preventive measures have been heightened.
According to him, surveillance has been strengthened at borders and airports, and health facilities have been directed to enforce strict infection prevention and control protocols.
The agency urged Nigerians to remain vigilant by maintaining good hygiene, avoiding contact with persons showing symptoms of unexplained infections, and reporting suspected cases immediately through the toll-free line 6232 or state emergency hotlines.
It also cautioned against non-essential travel to countries with confirmed Ebola outbreaks.
Travellers arriving from affected regions who develop symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, or unexplained bleeding are advised to self-isolate and promptly contact health authorities.
