Today, Saturday, June 1, 2024, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) carried out a nationwide environmental sanitation exercise across all local government areas in the federation.

Approved by the NYSC Director General Brigadier General Y. D. Ahmed, the initiative aims to improve living conditions at the grassroots level and address the significant health risks associated with poor sanitation.

In Lagos State, the exercise was officially launched by Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, the State Coordinator for NYSC Lagos State.

The event, tagged “Help NYSC Keep Lagos Clean: A Clean Lagos Starts with You,” saw enthusiastic participation from corps members who worked diligently to clean and beautify their surroundings.

The exercise is said to have been inspired by compelling evidence from the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) program, which highlights poor sanitation and hygiene as major contributors to the diseases and ailments treated by Corps Medical personnel in various communities.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and other health organizations had before now, expressed serious concerns about the direct link between poor sanitation, diseases, disability, and death.

Across the country, PlanetPulse.NG understands that corps members engaged in activities such as clearing refuse, cleaning drainage systems, and educating local communities on proper waste disposal methods.
