Over 80 houses submerged in Niger flood, 7 people missing

No fewer than seven persons have been declared missing in communities in Niger State following a heavy downpour that caused a flood.

Also, over 80 houses and hectares of farmlands were said to have been submerged by the flood on Friday.

The Director-General of Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Abdullah Baba Arah, confirmed the news to journalists in Minna.

He said the flooding was caused by hours of torrential rainfall.

He added that affected communities were in Mashegu and Magama local government areas of the state.

Arah said: “It is true NSEMA received reports of flood disasters in Mashegu and Magama LGAs. The flood was caused by torrential rainfall that lasted through the early hours of Friday, 30th August.

“Seven People have been declared missing, over 89 houses were affected, hundreds of hectares of farmlands, and 3 vehicles washed away.”
