The Nigerian Minister of Works, David Umahi, has ordered the clearing of drainages along federal roads in Lagos State to address flooding issues.

This announcement was made through Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, on Thursday.

The directive followed a 10-hour downpour on Wednesday, which disrupted business and commercial activities in many parts of Lagos and Ogun states.

The heavy rain halted vehicular movement as many cars were submerged in the flood, and affected many residents and pedestrians.

The flooded areas in Lagos included Iyana-Oworo, Agege, Ijegun-Isheri Osun, Gbagada, Lagos Island, Eredo, Bojije, Epe, Sangotedo, Ibeju Lekki, Awoyaya, Labora, and Abijon.

In response to the flooding, Umahi instructed the desilting of drainages along federal roads.

According to the statement, teams have been deployed to assess the situation, and efforts to clear the drains are currently underway.
